Success stories Grupo RBS
4,500 workstations, two states, six branch offices.
Multimedia broadcasting across Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, with offices in Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, the Federal District, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul. TV and radio stations, newspapers and web portals — and an IT estate scattered through towns where there is not always a technician on site.
The starting point
The inventory always arrived a month late.
Régis Santos Zanini, the group infrastructure and corporate security manager, does not describe a missing tool. He describes a missing number — one he could trust when deciding whether to buy or reassign a workstation.
My biggest problem was the inventory. We never had a correct and accurate inventory; it was usually a month out of date.

The decision
They had already tried the big tool.
The group evaluated other IT lifecycle management products, including one with a worldwide brand. What tipped the decision was customising the screens to the way RBS works: the product adjusted to the existing process instead of demanding the opposite.
I had tried other solutions, including powerful tools such as a product known worldwide. But none was as essential as Trauma Zer0.

What runs there
One agent, three modules.
The 4,500 installations cover three fronts at once — surveying the estate, distributing software and supporting users at a distance. It is the same agent in all three.
What changed
Deciding a purchase without waiting for the survey.
The workstation replacement policy depends on knowing what is inside each machine. That used to be a two-to-three-month project; it became a query.
We used to have to wait two or three months. Today we know in real time which software or hardware we need to buy or reassign.

We make heavy use of workstation management for remote support, especially in distant locations where we have no technicians available.

The group own help desk now works from the Tz0 console, including at head office — a ticket that once required a trip to the machine is resolved from wherever the analyst already is.
How it closed
Training came before the configuration that mattered.
The first installation was carried out by an outsourcing company hired by the group: it brought the modules up and demonstrated the basics. The configuration that actually changed day-to-day work only came after the RBS team went through training — and that order is what Zanini stresses.
Only after the training […] could Grupo RBS carry out a more elaborate and refined installation, where it was possible to implement all the functionality of the tool.

Case recorded from an interview with Régis Santos Zanini, infrastructure and corporate security manager at Grupo RBS. The source material carries no date; the estate figures, the modules and the composition of the group are those of the record. The quotations were given in Portuguese.
